Antonio’s Suitcase began with a simple promise—to preserve my father’s story and honour the millions of migrants whose courage, sacrifice and hope created a better future for the generations that followed.

When my father, Antonio, passed away, I was completely devastated. In the midst of that grief, I searched for a way to honour his life, his courage and the sacrifices he made for our family. That journey led me to create a memorial song, a tribute video and, ultimately, this children’s book.

Although this is my father’s story, it also reflects the lives of millions of migrants who left everything they knew in search of a better life for their families. Their courage, resilience and sacrifice created opportunities that future generations could only dream of. These are stories that deserve to be remembered forever.

I also feel a profound connection to Prezza, the small village in Abruzzo, Italy, where my family’s story began. Although I was born and raised in Australia, my heart has always remained tied to Prezza. It is far more than the place my parents came from—it is where my roots lie. It is my heritage, part of my identity and a place that will always feel like home.

When I walk through its streets, I don’t feel like a visitor—I feel a deep sense of belonging. My greatest hope is that my children, and the generations that follow, will always feel that same connection. I never want them to forget where they came from, or the courage and sacrifices that made their lives possible.
